Men's Basketball Closes Out Six-Game Homestand Against UMES on Saturday

WASHINGTON - In the last of six straight home games, American University men's basketball will host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Eagles, who are 6-1 on their home court this season, will not return to Bender Arena again until conference play begins on Dec. 31.

Bender Bites and The Perch
  • The Perch has returned for a second year, offering a special section behind the north basket where fans ages 21 and over can purchase beer, wine and seltzers.
  • New this season to the concessions area is Bender Bites, in partnership with AU Kitchen. The menu is expanded from past offerings, and there will be multiple areas for purchasing food, snacks and drinks around the arena.
Series History
  • AU has a 5-4 edge in the all-time series against UMES, dating from 2009 to 2018.
  • Neither team has ever won more than two in a row. The Eagles won at home, 82-58 in 2018, after dropping a 74-70 decision at UMES the season prior. 
  • On the Eagles' home court, they are 4-1 all-time against the Hawks.

  • American is wrapping up a six-game homestand, and the Eagles have gone 6-1 at home so far this season.
  • The Eagles have a 5-4 edge in the all-time series against UMES, but have not played the Hawks in seven years.
  • Four different players—Wyatt Nausadis, Madden Collins, Kade Sebastian, and Greg Jones—have been leading scorers so far for AU.
  • AU is coming off an exciting, comeback win over Drexel after trailing by 13 points at halftime on Dec. 3. Freshman Madden Collins scored 19 points to lead four who finished in double digits for the Eagles.
  • Trailing by 13 at the break, AU stormed through the second half to pull out a 75–73 win, cashing in at the line with an 18-for-23 performance after halftime. 
  • The Eagles shot 54 percent in a 48-point second half, and got 18 points at the FT line after going 0-for-4 in the first half. AU committed just three second-half turnovers, and a season-low six in the game.
  • As a team, American leads the Patriot League in 2025-26 in scoring offense (82 ppg), scoring margin (10.5 ppg), opponent three-point percentage (.297), turnover margin (2.50), and steals (8.9 per game).
  • Individuals ranked in the top five in the Patriot League after the opening 10 games of the season are Matt Mayock in FG percentage (5th, .548), Kade Sebastian in 3-pt FG percentage (5th, .462), and Madden Collins in steals (5th, 1.7 per game). 
What to Know About UMES
  • UMES sits 4-7 overall, most recently having fallen 68-56 at East Carolina. The Hawks have gone 1-6 on the road so far this season, with their only win being at Longwood. 
  • The Hawks were projected to finish seventh out of eight teams in the preseason Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference polls. 
  • Senior forward Joseph Locandro leads UMES with an average of 11.7 points per game and is shooting 52 percent from the floor.  Senior guard Zion Obanla leads the team with 5 rebounds per game.
  • Cleo Hill, Jr. is in his second year as head coach at UMES with a long head coaching resume in Division II.
