WASHINGTON –– The one-seeded American University field hockey team was defeated by fourth-seed Boston U 1-0 on Thursday in the semifinal matchup of the Patriot League Championships. After notching the first goal and only goal of the match, the Terriers held off the Eagles to advance to the championship match.

- American had 15 shots, but only two managed to find the target, most being blocked by Terrier defenders before they could do any damage. AU also had an eight-to-one advantage over BU in penalty corners.
- Freshman Lotti Süme was the Eagle that notched the most shots, coming as the result of penalty corners. The defender had four shots, one of which was on frame. Alyssa Freeman was the other Eagles to force BU goalkeeper Sophie Ortyl into making a save.
How It Happened
The Eagles had the first offensive chances of the game, taking three shots and earning two penalty corners in the first quarter, but couldn't break through BU's defense.
The Terriers struck in the 29th minute, grabbed a goal in the second quarter to take a lead into the half that they would hold onto throughout the rest of the afternoon.
American earned six more penalty corners in the second half and took 10 more shots–only one managed to be on target–but would fall shy of mounting a comeback to extend the season another game.
