Volleyball's Deniz Dakak Named Eagle of the Week After 14th Straight Win

WASHINGTON - In a week which saw her help lead American University volleyball to its 13th and 14th wins in a row, sophomore Deniz Dakak notched her 1,000th career assist and has earned Eagle of the Week honors. Dakak averaged a blistering 13.17 assists per set for the Eagles, who are the Patriot League regular season champs, along with 3.17 digs per set and 1.50 blocks per set.

The Eagles swept both Loyola Maryland and Navy in straight sets, with Dakak dishing 35 assists in the first and 44 in the second. She reached 1,000 in her career during the win at Navy in her 44-assist effort, also adding six blocks and seven digs. Dakak is by far the leader in the Patriot League with 10.53 assists per set, and ranks eighth in service aces per set. In the Loyola Maryland win, Dakak added 12 digs and three blocks to her 35 assists.

Up next for American, who has already clinched the No. 1 seed and hosting rights to the Patriot League semifinals and championship, is the final regular season game at Lafayette on Friday, Nov. 14.
