Women's Soccer Welcomes Navy on Wednesday for Military Appreciation and Mental Health Awareness

WASHINGTON – A two-game week begins at home for American University women's soccer, as the Eagles get set to host Patriot League foe Navy in a 1 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Oct. 15. AU will celebrate both Military Appreciation Day and Mental Health Awareness in hosting the Mids.

Parking on Campus

How to Get to Reeves Field
  • The main entrance to Reeves Field, down the hill from Bender Arena, is now open in front of the Meltzer Center construction.
What to Know About American
  • The Eagles are looking to get back in the win column after a tough, 2-1 defeat at Colgate. American tied the game up in the 70th minute, but the Raiders scored the game-winner with just two and a half minutes left.
  • Five one-goal losses are included in the Eagles 2-8-3 record so far as AU looks for more breakout performances offensively. 
  • Recent goal-scorers for American include senior Morissa Lambert at Colgate, senior Avery Klingensmith at Lafayette, senior Phoebe Merrigan vs. Army, and junior Bella Vozar with a last-minute game-winner vs. Army.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Addison Roemer made a career-high 12 saves in AU's win over Army, just one game after her previous career high of 10 saves in AU's 0-0 draw at George Mason. 
  • Seven different players have scored for AU so far, led by three goals each from Klingensmith and grad student Jennifer McGuire. McGuire has three assists to lead the team in total points with nine, while Klingensmith has two assists for eight points.
  • Freshman defender Natalia Croce has played in every minute of all 13 games so far for AU. 
What to Know About Navy
  • Navy is 8-5-2 overall but just 1-2-2 in Patriot League play so far, handing Boston University its only league loss back on Sept. 20 by a score of 3-1.
  • The Mids have tied 2-2 against both Lehigh and Army, and lost by a goal at Colgate and a goal at Holy Cross.
  • Navy returned seven starters from a team that went 9-10-2 last season, with a 3-4-2 mark in the Patriot League.
  • Senior forward Marlee Heaven leads Navy and ranks second in the Patriot League with eight goals, also adding two assists for 18 total points. Her five game-winning goals are tied for the lead in the Patriot League.
  • Navy has 12 goal-scorers so far this season, including seven with two or more goals.
  • Sophomore Natasha Stamrod is the Mids' primary goalkeeper with 48 saves and an .800 saves percentage. She is 7-4-2 overall in goal for Navy.
  • Head coach Carin Gabarra is in her 33rd season at Navy and 34th overall as a Division I coach, recently collecting her 400th career victory.
