WASHINGTON - Contributing to three wins each for American University women's swimming & diving, including a pool record, sophomore
Lian Jeong Engle and grad student
Mimi Watts have both been named Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of January 20-26. Both swimmers were part of two relay wins, and both also earned an individual victory.
Jeong Engle swam the anchor freestyle leg while Watts swam the butterfly leg of the pool record-setting and first-place women's 200 medley relay team. The winning time of 1:44.79 was over a half-second faster than the previous record of 1:45.33 by a team from Towson University that had stood since 2013.
Both Jeong Engle and Watts were also part of the winning women's 400 freestyle relay in 3:33.74. Jeong Engle posted an individual first-place finish with her time of 52.86 in the 100 free, while Watts won the 50 free in 23.81.Â
The two helped the women's team defeat ODU (141-64) for the first time in at least 22 years.
The final meet for the Eagles prior to the Patriot League Championships is next weekend as they head to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell Invitational at noon on Saturday, Feb. 1.
