WASHINGTON - Five matches were decided by three or fewer points, but the American University wrestling team managed only one win in a tough EIWA dual against No. 22 Army West Point on Sunday afternoon. Redshirt freshman Gage Owen was the lone winner for the Eagles, who lost 34-4 and now stand at 6-4 overall while Army improves to 6-1.

Notable

• The only win for American was a dominant one, as redshirt freshman Gage Owen posted three takedowns in an 11-0 major-decision victory over Zach Keal. The final takedown came as time expired, but the riding time point had already been secured for the major.
• Redshirt freshman Kaden Milheim scored four points in the third period to make it close at 165 pounds, but lost 8-6 to Army's #13 Gunner Flipowicz.
• The most intense bout of the day came at 184 pounds between AU's #33 Caleb Campos and Army's #31 Dalton Harkins. Each scored an escape, one in the second period and one in the third, leading to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. After battling through nearly another full period, Harkins scored a takedown with 11 seconds left for the sudden-victory decision.
• No. 33 Will Jarrell scored a two-point reversal to cut the margin to two in the third period against No. 21 Lucas Stoddard, but couldn't come up with any more points and lost 6-3 after an escape by Stoddard.
• Senior Elijah White scored a late takedown to get it close at 141 pounds against Army's #25 Richard Treanor, but lost 8-6.
• The dual ended in another close loss for AU, with Jack Nies giving up only an escape and riding time against Dakota Morris at 157. Nies was on the offensive as the match ended, but was unable to put any points on the board.

• The Eagles will host three teams next weekend in Bender Arena for the Chippewa Challenge on Sunday, Jan. 26. Head coaches of all four teams wrestled for head coach Jason Borrelli's father, Tom Borrelli, as Chippewas at Central Michigan University. The two other teams at the round-robin are Campbell and Cal State Bakersfield, and the action begins at noon.
