Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Tie at Holy Cross

Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Lailah Stewart scored her fifth goal of the season to give the American University women's soccer team a 1-0 lead in the second half, but Holy Cross equalized as American earned its first tie of the of the 2024 Patriot League season on Saturday.

  • Senior Brooke Steel had the best chance of the first half for the Eagles in the 25th minute, as she slipped past a defender, but her shot was saved by the feet of Holy Cross' goalkeeper.
  • Freshman Addison Roemer was tested several times in the first half, including on a long-range free kick, when she soared over the defense to punch the ball away.
  • Roemer made four saves in a scoreless first half.
  • Two minutes into the second half, Roemer made her best save of the game to that point, but she was shaken up after apparently being kicked in the face during the play. After being checked out by the Eagles' medical staff, Roemer continued to play in the game.
  • In the 57th minute, American turned defense into offense, as American moved down the field quickly, and Stewart scored her fifth goal of the season to give AU a 1-0 lead.
  • Holy Cross did not need much time to respond, as a couple of quick passes set up Ava Graham for the equalizer in the 64th minute.
  • American had a series of chances over the final 25 minutes, but the best chance came in the final seconds of the game, as a shot from Miller in a dangerous spot was saved, as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
