HAMILTON, N.Y. - The start was promising, but once the momentum shifted, it never came back for American University volleyball as the Eagles suffered a 3-1 loss at three-time defending Patriot League champion Colgate (5-8, 3-0) by scores of 25-14, 13-25, 17-25 and 15-25. It was the first PL loss for the Eagles, who now stand at 12-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.

- The Eagles were on fire in the opening set, hitting .419 with 16 kills, but could not come close to matching it the rest of the way.
- Patriot League Rookie of the Week Zedo Yilmaz posted her sixth double-double of the season with 12 digs to go with 11 kills.
- Senior Lilou Stegeman led AU with 12 kills, hitting an impressive .474.
- Freshman libero Bella Marrero led all players in the match with 14 digs, and also served up a pair of aces.
How it Happened
- It was all American in the opening set as the Eagles hit .419 to Colgate's .000 in winning easily, 25-14.
- Yilmaz had two kills and a block in leading AU to a 6-0 start, and Stegeman had three kills by the time the Eagles took a 9-1 lead.
- American's lead was as many as 13 points at 18-5, making the Eagles easily able to withstand a slightly stronger finishing stretch by Colgate.
- Stegeman set up set point with a kill, and served up an ace for the 25-14 victory.
- The momentum shifted drastically in the second set as Colgate jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never trailed. The Eagles were within a point at 8-7 but it was all Raiders from there, as they hit .265 to AU's .030 and won the set 25-13.
- The third set was the closest, tied as late as 13-13 before Colgate used a 5-0 run to take the lead for good.
- Colgate used a strong finish to win 25-17, hitting .290 for the set to AU's .023.
- The fourth and final set saw much of the same, as AU struggled with errors both on the attack and on the serve. The Eagles fell into an early hole and Colgate ran with it, hitting a match-best .414 in the set and winning 25-15.
