Women's Soccer Falls to Three-Time Defending Patriot League Champions Bucknell

BOYDS, Md. – The American University women's soccer team struck early against three-time defending Patriot League champions Bucknell, but the Bison attack responded with three goals to down the Eagles on Wednesday evening.

QUICK NOTABLES
  • American got on the board quickly, a third minute goal by senior Jennifer McGuire, assisted by graduate student Izzy Kadzban.
  • Bucknell responded shortly after with a goal in the 12th minute.
  • Two counter-attack goals from the Bison in the second half set them apart to take a 3-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • American scored in just the third minute, as Kadzban's shot slipped out of the hands of the Bucknell goalkeeper, right to the left foot of McGuire, who scored her second goal of the season.
  • Bucknell answered quickly, as a corner kick from Teresa Deda found the shoulder of Reese Evans, who found the bottom corner of the goal.
  • Despite even possession in the first half, Bucknell had the majority of the chances, including 16 shots to just six from American in the first 45 minutes.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Addison Roemer was fantastic in the first half, making six saves to keep the Eagles in the game.
  • American controlled possession for most of the second half, but Bucknell took advantage of a counter-attack in the 77th minute, as Kelley Francis scored to give the Bison a 2-1 lead.
  • Again on the counter-attack, Bucknell found a third goal from Katie Connell in the 82nd minute.
  • The Eagles had chances in the closing minutes, including a dangerous shot on goal from junior Phoebe Merrigan, but American was unable to score as Bucknell won, 3-1.
