Women's Soccer Falls in Battle at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The American University women's soccer team fought hard for 90 minutes against two-time defending Patriot League regular season champions Army, but were unable to convert all of its chances as the Eagles fell 4-1 on Friday evening.
 
QUICK NOTABLES
  • Army struck first, with the Black Knights setting the tone just six minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead.
  • American had its chances in the first half, firing five shots, including two on goal, but Army led 1-0 at the break.
  • Army tallied two more goals to extend its lead to three through 71 minutes.
  • Sophomore Lailah Stewart drew a penalty and scored on the ensuing kick in the 76th minute to cut Army's lead to 3-1.
  • The Black Knights added one more goal, leading to a 4-1 defeat for the Eagles.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bella Conti scored in the seventh minute to open the scoring for Army.
  • The best chance of the first half came for junior Phoebe Merrigan in the 15th minute, a shot saved by the Black Knights.

  • The Black Knights scored quickly again in the second half, as Kaelan Bradley found the net for a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute.
  • Immediately after a save from freshman Addison Roemer, Bradley found the rebound and scored again for Army in the 71st minute to give the Black Knights a 3-0 lead.
  • Stewart drew a foul and converted the penalty kick to make it 3-1 in the 76th minute.
  • Grace Edvalds scored the final goal of the game for Army in the 84th minute, giving the Black Knights a 4-1 win.
