WASHINGTON - With an early goal that turned out to be the game-winner, junior Troy Elgersma helped American University men's soccer to a win in the Eagles' Patriot League opener, and has been named the Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 9-15.

Elgersma scored in the 11th minute for American in the Eagles' 2-0 shutout of PL preseason favorite Loyola Maryland. Just five minutes later, he was one of two players credited with an assist on the second goal by teammate Sam Hershey. Elgersma finished with two shots on goal in the contest, along with his goal and assist.

The Eagles will be back at the Maryland SoccerPlex on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 pm, against beltway rivals UMBC.
