WASHINGTON - For an outstanding effort in one of the biggest wins in program history, senior Brooke Steel of American University women's soccer has been named the first Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week for 2024-25. Steel and the Eagles won their only game of the week, shutting out local rival Maryland of the Big Ten Conference by a score of 2-0.

Steel scored the first goal which proved to be the game-winner, firing a shot into the lower left in the 59th minute. It was the only shot on goal of the contest for Steel, who came in off the bench for American. It was also the ninth career goal for Steel, who scored three as a junior.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 1, facing Binghamton in their home opener at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
