Izzy Kadzban each put the ball in the back of the net for the Eagles, who improved to 1-1-1 for the season, while Maryland also now stands at 1-1-1.
QUICK NOTABLES
- The goal for Steel was her first of the season and ninth of her career.
- Kadzban led the Eagles with four goals in 2022, but had not scored since until tonight.
- American's win was its first over a major conference opponent since beating Alabama in 2004. It was the Eagles' second-ever win over a Big Ten opponent, but the first was against Rutgers back in 1999 before the Scarlet Knights joined the conference.
- Shots on goal favored American 6-4.
- Freshman Addison Roemer recorded her first career shutout in posting the victory, making four saves for AU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles had the first shot on goal in the 11th minute and went on to finish the opening half with three on target compared to two for the Terps.
- Kadzban, Avery Klingensmith, and Lailah Stewart each put on shot on goal in the opening period, all of which were saved by Maryland keeper Liz Beardsley.
- At the other end, Roemer made a pair of saves to keep the Terps off the scoreboard, and made two more in the second half.
- The time of possession was nearly equal in the opening half, and each team took one corner.
- Just over 13 minutes into the second frame, Steel fired a shot into the lower left of the goal that got past Beardsley and put the Eagles on the board.
- Four minutes later, Stewart freed up the ball through traffic to get it to Kadzban whose shot to the lower right made it a 2-0 advantage for AU.
- Maryland took three more shots in the remaining time, but two missed high and one was wide.

- American was on target with six of its eight total shots, while the Terps totaled 10 shots but only four on goal.
- Kadzban and Stewart both put two shots on goal for AU.
