MANHEIM, Pa. - Four American University wrestlers were named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans, an award that recognizes exceptional student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in academics and athletics. Three Eagles were repeat honorees in 2023-24.
A total of 338 scholar-athletes from 78 institutions across the nation were recognized for their outstanding achievements. Among those were AU wrestlers Will Jarrell, Jack Maida, Liam Volk-Klos, and Lucas White. Jarrell, Maida and White are all two-time honorees, while Volk-Klos receives his first honor. Jarrell, a grad student, has a 3.77 GPA as a political science major. Maida has a 3.51 GPA and is majoring in finance, Volk-Klos has a perfect 4.0 GPA in data science, and White boasts a 3.75 GPA as a data science & environmental studies major. All four were starters for the Eagles throughout the season and at the EIWA Championships.
NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer applauded these outstanding athletes for their unwavering commitment and excellence both on and off the wrestling mat. Moyer expressed, "It is a privilege to honor these exceptional athletes for their remarkable accomplishments. Congratulations to all the awardees, and we extend our best wishes for their continued success in their academic and athletic endeavors."
