Women's Swim & Dive's Mimi Watts Earns Third Straight First Team All-Patriot League Honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the third year in a row and in each year that it was possible, Mimi Watts of American University women's swimming & diving has been named to the All-Patriot League First Team. Watts is coming off another incredible week at the PL Championships that saw her win two gold medals and one silver, along with setting five school records.

Watts captured individual conference titles in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, and in between those she earned a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly. She broke her own school records in both of her individual wins, and was a part of three of four relay school records over the four-day meet. Watts set NCAA "B" standards in both freestyle events, going 22.38 in the 50 free and 49.34 in the 100 free.

Prior to Watts' first of three gold medals won in 2023, the last gold medal for American swim & dive had been won in 2011. When she earned PL First Team honors in 2022, she was AU's first All-PL honoree at all since 2017. She has now earned nine medals in three PL Championships, including five golds.

As a freshman in 2020-21, Watts did not have a chance to compete at the PL Championships as only a "Patriot League Challenge" was held with a few teams at each site due to the pandemic.
