Men's Basketball Rides Huge Second Half for Season Sweep of Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The American University men's basketball team completed a season sweep of Army West Point, 73-51. Seven different Eagles made a three-pointer, and 23 of the team's 27 field goals were assisted.
 
Notable Numbers
  • Senior Matt Rogers led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points, adding five rebounds.
  • Junior Elijah Stephens tallied 13 points and eight assists.
  • Four Eagles reached double-figures scoring (Rogers, Stephens, Ball, Greg Jones).
  • Greg Jones scored a career-high 10 points in his fifth career start.

  • Both teams came out firing, but three different Eagles made a three-pointer in the first five minutes of the game to give American a 13-8 lead at the 14:18 mark.

  • A 9-2 run for Army over a four-minute stretch trimmed American's lead to 31-23 with 3:42 left in the first half.

Second Half
  • After missing his first four attempts from deep, sophomore Geoff Sprouse knocked down a three-pointer as American led 44-37 at the 16:16 mark.
  • After a layup from Stephens, American went scoreless for more than three minutes, but the Eagles held Army to just two points during the stretch. American led 46-39 with 12 minutes to play.
  • American made two consecutive three-pointers (Ball and Stephens) to help American jump out to a 55-42 lead with just under eight minutes left in the game.
  • Rogers made a floater in the paint to extend American's lead to 15 with 4:43 to play.
  • Sophomore Noah Jones entered the game with under two minutes to play, making the first three-pointer of his career to reach a career high of three points.
  • American outscored Army 37-20 in the second half.
