WASHINGTON – After falling behind early, American University women's basketball couldn't close the gap and lost to the United States Naval Academy 69-55.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Anna LeMaster recorded her second career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, leading the team in both categories.
- Ivy Bales had a team high six assists. She also added eight points and three steals.
- American struggled with ball control, getting outscored 23-7 in points off turnovers.
- Maren Louridas of Navy led all players with 20 points off of 8-10 shooting.
- With Army also losing to Boston this evening, American remains tied for second in the Patriot League with a 7-5 conference record (9-14 overall).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bales found Johns cutting to the inside to score the game's first points. The Midshipmen responded, jumping out to a hot start out of the gate, going on a 17-4 run to lead 17-6 just over six minutes into the game.
- Aided by going 4-4 on free throws, the Eagles narrowed Navy's lead over the final minutes of the quarter to trail 19-12 after the first frame.
- LeMaster got her second bucket of the game with a three, but Navy continued to push as the second quarter got underway, leading 31-17 at the media timeout with 4:36 left in the half.
- American trailed 38-20 at the half.
- In the third, the Eagles got the score as close as 12, with Bales scoring five in the quarter, but American still found themselves behind 51-35 after thirty minutes.
- LeMaster recorded nine points in the final quarter, hitting three from distance, but American went on to lose by a final score of 69-55.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will head up to Easton, Pennsylvania to face Lafayette on Saturday, February 17 at 2 p.m. for the first of a two game road trip that will conclude Wednesday, February 21 in Boston against the Terriers at 7 p.m.
