WASHINGTON - Thanks to an impressive and career-high 33-point effort for American University men's basketball in the Eagles' only game this past week, graduate student
Matt Rogers has been named the
Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week.
Rogers hit 15-of-20 from the field and 2-of-3 from long range on his way to a dominant effort. Although the team came up short in double overtime, Rogers added 10 rebounds to his 33 points for his first double-double of the season. He also tied for the team high with five assists, and led AU with two blocks.
During the second half, Rogers scored a bucket that moved into 10th place all-time at American in career scoring. He remains there in 10th with 1,476 points.
The Eagles will start conference play on the road at Navy, taking on the Midshipmen at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2.
