WASHINGTON - After posting strong performances in two games for American University men's basketball in the week before the holiday break, sophomore
Greg Jones has been named the
Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week. It's the first such honor for Jones, who has come on strong in his second season after battling through injury in his first.
Jones shot 66.7 percent from the field for the week, hitting 8-of-12 overall and 3-of-6 shots from long range. He finished with a career-high 19 points at Saint Joseph's, tying for team-high honors in that loss. In the two games combined, Jones hit 9-for-9 at the free throw line, going 5-for-5 at Saint Joseph's and 4-for-4 at Virginia. He averaged 14.0 points per game and five rebounds per game, also leading the Eagles with five steals and tying for the team lead with four assists.
The Eagles will finish the non-conference slate at home against UMBC, taking on the Retrievers at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29 in Bender Arena.
