WASHINGTON – Each team had five leads in a game that was back and forth a number of times in the second half, but it was the La Salle Explorers to come away with the 69-60 win over American University women's basketball. Freshman
Cecilia Kay scored a season-high 19 points, but the battle of the boards went to La Salle.

- Aryss Macktoon scored a game-high 22 points for La Salle, hitting 11-of-19 from the field.
- The Explorers pulled down 44 rebounds to the Eagles' 34, including a 20-6 advantage on the offensive glass that led to a 14-5 lead in second-chance points.
- Turnovers were also costly for AU who committed 24 of them to La Salle's 15. The Explorers led in points off turnovers, 26-16.
- Kay hit an impressive 8-for-10 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds while also leading the Eagles with three steals and a block.
- Bailey Garbee also reached double digits in scoring with 12 points, and Ivy Bales tied Kay for team-high honors with seven rebounds.
- Laura Nogues dished a career-high eight assists to lead all players in the contest.
How it Happened
- The Eagles had an early lead thanks to hitting five of their first seven shots, but turnovers began to be an issue and La Salle had it tied up for the first time at 11-11.
- American trailed 17-14 at the end of the first quarter after the Explorers had yet to turn the ball over while AU had done so seven times.
- Strong shooting kept the Eagles in it, even as La Salle capitalized on second chances.
- American built a four-point lead of 29-25 on a Molly Driscoll three-pointer with 4:30 left in the first half.
- The final two minutes of the second quarter saw AU held scoreless, and the Eagles trailed 35-31 at the break as La Salle made a 10-2 closing run.
- Both teams were hitting shots to start the third, with La Salle going 4-of-8 while AU was 3-for-6.
- After trailing by the largest margin of eight, 41-33, the Eagles capped a 7-0 run with five straight points from Kay to tie the game at 44-all with 3:09 left in the third quarter.
- The Eagles led by a point, 53-52 with 5:21 left in the game, but it was their last lead as La Salle used a 10-2 run to go up by seven, 62-55.
- Anna Rescifina briefly cut the deficit to four on a shot from long range, but La Salle's Joan Quinn answered with a trey on the other end.
- The Explorers hit all four of their free throws in the final 40 seconds to maintain the lead.
On the Horizon
The Eagles will next head to Puerto Rico to take part in the Puerto Rico Clasico over the Thanksgiving break, playing games against Milwaukee and Winthrop.
