How It Happened
There was nothing going for either team, only one shot registered–by Bucknell–in the first period. The second period, saw an increase in shots and corners, but still nothing from either side.
The Bison had two shots on goal in the second frame, the only shots on target for either team taken in the first half.
It was the 45th minute, less than thirty seconds before the end of the third quarter when the Eagles were awarded their fourth corner of the game.
Sophie Willemse took the initial sweeping shot. The ball traveled wide towards Roffo who redirected the ball into the cage to put AU up, 1-0.
In the 55th minute, Bucknell pulled their keeper, Sarah Althouse, to add a player on the field advantage.
Two minutes later, at 56:51, AU scored again off a corner.
Sarah Steinman was the inserted for this one and she sent it short to
Tayla-Jade Weiss. Weiss then sent the ball across the top of the circle to Turina Dellamaggiore who slammed the ball into the cage. Eagles up, 2-1.
From Head Coach Jennings
"We are very happy with a very hard fought win against an excellent Bucknell team who pushed us every step of the way. The game had a lot of momentum changes, but our deep defense held strong when they needed to, and we were fortunate to execute on some timely corners to take control of the game.
"We have grown so much this year and still see room for improvement as we head into the post season. We are thrilled to be hosting the Patriot League Tournament and know the challenges and excitement will only ramp up from here."
