BOYDS, Md. – The American University women's soccer team fell to Lafayette, 3-0, on Saturday after the Leopards scored two first-half goals and struck quickly in the second half for a third goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Lafayette struck first in the 34th minute with a goal from Sofia Ruggiero, as the Leopards took a 1-0 lead.
• Lafayette scored again quickly, as Ruggiero scored yet another unassisted goal to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead in the 42nd minute.
• At halftime, American had six shots, with five on target, but none of them found the net as the Leopards led, 2-0.
• It did not take long for Lafayette to make it 3-0 in the second half, as Katrina Santelli scored for the Leopards.
• American controlled possession for most of the rest of the game, shooting the ball 14 times in the second half, but the Eagles were unable to break through.

 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• After the third goal from Lafayette, senior goalkeeper Julia Kato entered the game for the first time this season for American.
• American outshot Lafayette by a significant margin, with 20 shots to just six for the Leopards.
