Women's Soccer Plays to a 2-2 Draw Against League-Leading BU

BOYDS, Md. – Although a two-goal lead against the Patriot League-leading Boston University Terriers was thrilling, in the end it was only enough for a tie for American University women's soccer. The 2-2 result, along with other results around the league, allowed the Eagles to remain in the hunt for a spot in the six-team Patriot League Tournament with one regular-season game remaining.

Notable
  • Sophomore Bella Vozar and freshman Nariah Goldman were the goal-scorers for American.
  • The goal was the second of Vozar's career and her first since the opening game of the season at GW.
  • The goal for Goldman was the first of her career.
  • Junior Phoebe Merrigan recorded her first assist of the season and third of her career on the goal by Vozar.
  • Sophomore Lailah Stewart tallied the assist on Goldman's goal, her fifth assist of the year.
  • The Eagles took two shots on goal in each half, scoring on one both times.
  • BU's two first-half shots on goal were both saved by freshman goalkeeper Addison Roemer.
  • Senior goalkeeper Julia Kato made four saves in the second half, also allowing two goals.
How It Happened
  • After over 44 minutes of scoreless play in the first half, it was the Eagles to strike first and score in the final minute of the half for the second-consecutive game.
  • The Terriers cleared it out of the box with just under a minute left, but it went right to the feet of Merrigan who sent it back in. On the receiving end was Vozar who one-timed it into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 72nd minute, Stewart got the ball at midfield on a turnover and used a breakaway opportunity to get it to Goldman whose strong shot from the top of the box sailed over the head of BU goalkeeper Bridget Carr.
  • The two-goal lead was short-lived, as BU scored its first goal in the 77th minute. Helene Tyburczy went end-to-end and sent a long pass to Giulianna Gianino, who caught up to it and put it in the net.
  • Kat Slott scored the tying goal in the 83rd minute, tracking down a loose ball off a shot that hit the crossbar.
  • Kato made a save in the 85th minute to preserve the tie, and no more shots were on target the rest of the way.

Up Next
  • The Eagles will play their final game of the regular season at Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
