Women's Soccer Earns Second Straight PL Shutout Victory, 2-0 at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time in a week, the American University women's soccer team earned a shutout victory against a Patriot League opponent as the Eagles took down Lehigh on the road, 2-0. AU's defense held strong throughout, with senior Julia Kato making two second-half saves.
 
Notable
  • The Eagles have moved into a tie for seventh place in the Patriot League standings with seven points. Two regular season games remain, and the top six teams will advance to the PL Tournament.
  • American dominated throughout the contest at Lehigh, taking 15 total shots compared to the Mountain Hawks' six. Seven of the Eagles' shots were on target.
  • The goals for AU were scored by sophomore Bella Miller and senior Brooke Steel. It was the first career goal for Miller after a near-goal earlier this week at Navy, and the 10th career goal for Steel who now has two this season.
  • Senior Izzy Kadzban notched her third assist of the season on the goal by Miller.
  • With six victories, American has tied its highest win total since 2019.
How It Happened
  • The second shot on goal for American was the first to go as Miller struck in the 10th minute of play, getting a cross from Kadzban to the far post to beat the keeper.
  • Lailah Stewart and Olivia Simmons both had solid chances over the next 20 minutes of the half, with Lehigh's Maggie Ousouljoglou saving both.
  • With a minute remaining in the first half, the Eagles got possession in midfield after a free kick for Lehigh.
  • Steel corralled it and broke away, taking a shot from 15 yards outside the box that went over the head of Ousouljoglou and into the net with 48 seconds left.
  • The Eagles put two more shots on target in the second half, a second from Stewart and another from Avery Klingensmith. 
  • Lehigh kept AU out of the goal in the final 45, but Kato also made two saves for the Eagles to preserve the shutout.
