Women's Soccer Earns First Patriot League Win of Season at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman Addison Roemer and senior Julia Kato combined for five saves as the American University women's soccer team shut out Navy on Wednesday night, 1-0, to earn its first Patriot League win of the season.

QUICK NOTABLES
  • The Eagles scored the only goal of the game on an own goal from the Mids in the 11th minute.
  • Roemer made two saves in the first half, and Kato made three saves in the second half.
  • American's 15 goals so far this season are already its most since 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • American came out firing early, as shots from graduate student Izzy Kadzban and sophomore Lailah Stewart forced saves from Navy's goalkeeper in just the first two minutes.
  • Applying pressure in the 11th minute, Kadzban passed to Stewart, who was looking to connect with fellow sophomore Bella Miller, and the pressure forced an own goal to put the Eagles on the board with a 1-0 lead.
  • Later in the half, American had its strongest scoring chance of the half, as senior Jennifer McGuire took a first-time shot, but Navy's goalkeeper made the save to keep the Mids' deficit at one goal.
  • American held a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.
  • In the 73rd minute, American had another dangerous chance, as a pass from McGuire to senior Brooke Steel yielded a one-on-one, which Steel snuck past the keeper, but a Navy defender came out of nowhere to make a goal-line clearance.
  • In the 81st minute, junior Avery Klingensmith created a one-on-one opportunity for herself, but her shot went right to the hands of Navy's goalkeeper for another save.
  • The Eagles fought off a last-minute effort from Navy to hold onto a 1-0 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Roemer made two saves in the first half for the Eagles.
  • After a halftime goalkeeper switch, Kato made three saves in the second half.
