Rogers Named Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year; Eagles Picked to Finish Second

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Graduate student Matt Rogers was named the 2024 Patriot League Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year in addition to being named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, while the American University men's basketball team was picked to finish second in the League's Preseason Poll.
 
Rogers is a two-time All-Patriot League selection, earning First Team honors in 2023-24 after finishing third in the League in scoring (16.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg). Last season, he earned Patriot League Player of the Week twice. He became the 15th player in AU men's basketball history to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds during his career.
 
The Patriot League's men's basketball head coaches and athletics communications contacts completed voting for the preseason poll, major awards and All-League team. They cannot vote for their team or student-athletes.
 
The Eagles were picked to finish second in the League, with 144 votes and four first-place votes. Four-time defending champion Colgate received the most points, 156, as well as 14 first-place votes.
 
American will kick off its 2024 campaign this Saturday, October 19, with its Blue-White Game at 12:00 p.m., before hosting Howard for a charity exhibition on October 28 at 7:00 p.m. The official season opener will be at La Salle on November 4 before the Eagles' home opener against Harvard on November 10 at 2:00 p.m.
