Zedo Yilmaz of American University volleyball has been named the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week. Yilmaz is a consistent leader in the front and back row for the Eagles, who went 1-1 last week with a loss at Colgate and a sweep at Holy Cross.
Yilmaz averaged 4.43 kills per set and 2.86 digs per set for American last week, and her 4.38 points per game lead the PL for conference matches. She posted 11 kills and 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season at Colgate, before leading all players with 20 kills in just three sets in a win at Holy Cross, hitting .600 with only two errors on 30 attempts. Her 20 kills at Holy Cross are tied for the most in a three-set match in the PL this season. She also tallied eight digs and two blocks against the Crusaders.
After averaging 3.14 kills per set and 1.14 blocks per set, senior Lilou Stegeman earned Honorable Mention selection from the Patriot League.
The Eagles finally return home and will host Bucknell at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 before taking on Lafayette at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
