Love, Basketball, and African Culture with AU Athletics

WASHINGTON - American University Athletics proudly presents a celebration of Black History, seamlessly intertwining the excitement of men's and women's basketball games with cultural enrichment and community engagement. In collaboration with the Black Alumni Alliance, this year's men's basketball programming features the annual "Love and Basketball" event on Saturday, Feb. 3 when the Eagles host Patriot League rival Bucknell at 4 p.m.

This is not merely a game; it is a Black History Month community engagement experience you won't want to miss.

The Nu Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha will be performing a traditional Fraternity Stroll. Strolling is a step routine meant to be a representation of the bond between the members of fraternities. It started as a way to show off African American dancing and has since expanded to include other minorities.

The performance highlight of the event will occur at halftime, courtesy of "Les Coeurs D'Afrique" (Hearts of Africa), an ensemble dedicated to promoting the beauty and diversity of African culture through mesmerizing music, dance, and storytelling. Don't miss this extraordinary performance that promises to captivate, inspire, and celebrate the rich heritage of the African continent.

The festivities commence at the Bridge Cafe with the Residence Hall Association's "Taste of the Diaspora" Community Mixer. Immerse yourself in a culinary journey celebrating the food and fellowship of the African Diaspora. Engage with AU students and community members as you savor delicious dishes and explore the rich culinary traditions that unite us.

As part of AU Athletics' commitment to diversity and inclusion, we are proud to announce an initiative to diversify vendors. The pregame shirts for this event are proudly provided by the Washington DC-based company "For The Fan Shop." This initiative reflects our dedication to supporting local businesses and fostering economic diversity within our community.
