Women’s Hoops Begins a Two-Game Road Trip in Worcester Against Holy Cross

WASHINGTON – After a fourth quarter surge to secure the season sweep of Lehigh, American University Women's Basketball travels to Holy Cross for the first of two road matchups this week.

  • This will be the 49th matchup between the two programs, with American looking to climb closer to evening the series on Wednesday.
  • The Eagles won two of their last five matchups against the Crusaders, with their most recent victory coming in a 67-65 overtime battle last season in Worcester.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • Over the weekend, three Eagles put up double-digits in scoring against Lehigh. Senior guard Ivy Bales led the team with 15 points followed closely with a 14 point display by senior forward Emily Johns and 12 points by graduate student forward Lauren Stack.
  • The last four games for American ended within a margin of ten points or less. The Eagles won three of four, with their most recent coming from a 59-55 win over Lehigh.
  • Johns is tenth in the Patriot League in scoring with 210 points accumulated so far this season. Bales is now second in the Patriot League in steals with 40, contributing to American ranking second in the league with 150 steals on the season. She captured four more in the most recent contest against the Mountain Hawks.
  • Molly Lavin, the sophomore forward from London, leads the team in rebounding this season, averaging 5.3 per game. She picked up six on Saturday against Lehigh in a game-high that matched with Bales.
  • After starting the season 2-9, the Eagles went 5-1 to open their Patriot League campaign for a current record of 7-10.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS
  • Holy Cross won nine of their last ten games and enter their game against American on an eight-game win streak.
  • Last Saturday, the Crusaders defeated Loyola Maryland 71-51. The Greyhounds are the only Patriot League team to defeat the Eagles this season. Holy Cross remains the only team undefeated in the Patriot League so far.
  • In that game against Loyola, senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy led the team in scoring with 20 points, her fourth 20+ game this season. She also shot 4-6 from behind the arch for the Crusaders.
  • Around the league, Bronagh Power-Cassidy sits fifth in scoring with 225 points, sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan leads the league in assists with 80, and the Crusaders lead the league as a team in defense and rebounding.
  • Also in that game against Loyola Maryland, reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Simone Foreman recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and game-high 12 rebounds. Meanwhile, seniors Janelle Allen and Cara McCormack scored nine points apiece.
