WASHINGTON – Despite the second half goal from junior
Brooke Steel, American University women's soccer fell to the University of Richmond Spiders, 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Reeves Field. Steel's goal was her first of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Richmond started off strong, taking the first shot of the game, hitting the top of the goal and sending the ball into the hands of junior Julia Kato.
- The Eagles' best shot of the first half came in the 28th minute, off a shot from freshman Lailah Stewart, but Richmond's goalkeeper made the save to keep AU off the scoreboard.
- The Eagles held the 4-1 shot advantage for the rest of the half, but neither side could find the back of the net in the first half to send the game into halftime tied at zero.
- Richmond found the back of the net first in the 52nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Spiders then added to their lead in the 82nd minute to put the score at 2-0.
- Not even a minute later, it was Steel who found the back of the net for American in the 83rd minute to cut the Spiders' lead in half.
- The Eagles continued to put on the pressure in the final minutes, looking for a chance to equalize, but time expired as the game ended in a 2-1 victory in favor of the visitors.
