Lailah Stewart late in the second half that lifted American University women's soccer over the Lafayette College Leopards on Saturday night. Junior
Julia Kato recorded her fourth clean sheet of the season as the Eagles picked up a big win on the road.

- The shutout in Easton marked the first shutout for the Eagles over the Leopards since the 2018 season. That year the Eagles earned the 2-0 win over the Leopards in Washington, D.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- American had two early chances to take the lead, off shots from senior Izzy Kadzban and sophomore Avery Klingensmith, but both shots were stopped by the Leopards' goalkeeper.
- The Leopards held the 6-5 shot advantage throughout the first 45 minutes of the game, but none of their shots, as well as none of the Eagles' shots, could find the back of the net to send the game into halftime tied 0-0.
- Kadzban and sophomore Alyssa Giroux wasted no time breaking through Lafayette's defense in the second half, each taking a shot, but both were stopped by the Leopards' keeper.
- It looked as if the Eagles took the lead in the 51st minute, after junior Giuliana Capraro found the back of the net, but a late offsides call on the Eagles put the score back at 0-0.
- Iluyomade broke the scoreless tie in the 73rd minute, off an assist from Klingensmith, to put American up 1-0.
- Stewart added the insurance goal for the Eagles in the 89th minute to give American the 2-0 road victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles outshot the Leopards 19-8. After being held to five shots in the first half, American exploded with 14 shots in the second half.
- The Eagles' defense held the Leopards to two shots in the second half.
- Lafayette just held the corner kicks advantage, 6-5.
- Seven Eagles recorded a shot in the game, led by Klingensmith with four.
- Kato made two saves in goal.
UP NEXT
- American remains on the road on Saturday, Oct. 7, traveling to Colgate. The game is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
