BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On Monday, the Patriot League office announced that junior
Brooke Steel was named the Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in American's league opening win Saturday over Army West Point. Steel was also honored as the Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week at AU.
Steel had a hand in both goals, recording a goal and an assist in American's 2-1 win over Army on Saturday to open Patriot League play. Her goal came early in the second half, in the 67
th minute, for the eventual game-winning goal that would break the 1-1 draw. The goal was her second of the season.
The Medford Lakes, N.J. native also recorded an assist in the Eagles' win, marking her first of the season. The assist came in American's first goal of the game in the 44
th minute to put American up 1-0 heading into halftime.
The honor is the second weekly of her career, as she was named the Patriot League Rookie the Week during the 2021 season.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 20 for a road test at Bucknell.
