Women’s Soccer Drops First Road Test of the Season at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – American University women's soccer (0-1-1, 0-0-0 Patriot League) dropped its first road game of the season, 5-0, to Duquesne University at Rooney Field. Four Eagles recorded a shot in the game and junior goalkeeper Julia Kato recorded a season high four saves.
 
QUICK NOTABLES
  • Sophomore Morissa Lambert and senior Izzy Kadzban both made their first starts of the season.
  • Sunday's game marked the first time that the Eagles have faced the Duquesne Dukes in Pittsburgh. The last time the two squads met was at a neutral site game in Fairfax, Va. in 2006.
  • Freshmen Lauren Sanders made her collegiate debut in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Duquesne took an early lead in the seventh minute of the game off a penalty kick.
  • Junior Brooke Steel took American's first shot of the game in the 12th minute, but her shot went high and to the right keeping the Eagles off the board.
  • In the 25th minute, American had its first chance of the game to find the back of the net, off a shot from sophomore Avery Klingensmith, but Duquesne's goalkeeper was there to make the save.
  • Duquesne added another goal in the 43rd minute to send the game into halftime up 2-0.
  • The home team took control in the second half, holding American to one shot and adding three more goals in the second half to earn the 5-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Steel, junior Jennifer McGuire, Klingensmith, and senior Natalie Oliver each totaled a shot. Both Oliver's and Klingensmith's shots were on goal.
  • Junior Julia Kato, Oliver, and Steel played all 90 minutes of the game.
  • Duquesne held the 18-4 shot advantage.
  • American was only called once for offsides while Duquesne was called offsides five times.
