LEWISBURG, Pa. – It was a back-and-forth contest early on, but after Bucknell pulled away there was no successful comeback for the American University lacrosse team (6-8, 2-5 PL) as the Eagles fell 20-11 to the Bison (6-7, 2-4 PL).
BY THE NUMBERS
- Freshman Reagan Murdoch scored three of the Eagles' first six goals to notch the first hat trick of her career.
- American got two goals apiece from sophomore Alyssa Apuzzo and freshman Kellie Linehan, with Apuzzo also adding an assist.
- On the draw, Jordan Mitchell led the Eagles with five draw controls. Defensively, Jane Reffelt was AU's leader with two caused turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded goals early, but AU never held the lead and the last tie came at 2-2.
- Bucknell took the lead for good at 3-2, but the Eagles stayed in it for most of the first period.
- The high-scoring opening quarter ended with Bucknell's ninth goal in the final second, as the Bison took a 9-6 lead.
- The Bison rattled off four straight in the second quarter to take a 13-6 lead into halftime.
- AU came within six early in the third quarter, but could get no closer.
