TULSA, Okla. - The NCAA Championships run came to an end for sophomore
Jack Maida on day two in Tulsa, as the 133-pounder lost in his second-round consolation match. Maida finished the week at 1-2 overall as the No. 31 seed at his first nationals.
Chattanooga's No. 17 Brayden Palmer earned a 10-1 major decision victory over Maida in the Friday morning bout, giving the AU wrestler his second loss in a double-elimination tournament.
Maida had advanced to day two thanks to an upset of 18th-seeded Jason Shaner of Oregon State in the consolation first round.
The win by fall over Shaner earned 2.5 points for American, the first points for the Eagles since 2019 and the most since AU scored a total of 4.5 in 2017.
