William and Mary Hands Men's Basketball a 75-56 Road Loss

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - There were moments when it looked like things might go the Eagles' way, but ultimately a tough start was a harbinger of how the game would finish for American University men's basketball as AU dropped a 75-56 decision at William & Mary. American will look for its first win in its home opener when the Eagles host Siena on Monday, Nov. 13.

  • The Tribe connected on 12-of-16 free throws while AU was 6-of-9.
  • With a 5-0 run in the final minutes that included a fast break layup for Colin Smalls after a Donadio steal, AU got its deficit down to nine.
  • The Tribe hit one more before the break to take an 11-point, 35-24 lead into halftime.
Second Half
  • Hitting 3-of-3 to start the half got the Eagles to within seven points, 37-30.
  • After a Mayock three-pointer and a Donadio fast break layup, AU came within five points near the 15-minute mark, but the Eagles could get no closer.
  • The Tribe's Sean Houpt caught fire from long range and had help from his team in surging back ahead by double digits.
  • With nine minutes remaining, the lead for William & Mary was 20, 61-41.
  • Foul calls in the second half were 13-6 favoring American, and free throws put the Tribe up by as many as 25 points with eight minutes left.
