What to Know About American
  • American is coming off a 2-0 week and a pair of very different wins, one being a nail-biter and the other seeing the Eagles score the most points in a single game in 28 years. AU totaled 103 in its win over Hood College, and made a program-record 19 three-pointers.
  • After playing four of their last five games at home, and winning them all to remain perfect in Bender Arena this season, the Eagles now head out on the road for five of their next six contests.
  • Sophomore Geoff Sprouse has been lighting it up from long range, including a career-high 7-of-13 performance against Hood that got him to a career-high 26 points. He leads the Patriot League with 3.3 three-pointers per game, and the Eagles lead the PL with 10.7 per game.
  • With 44 assists in seven games this season, junior point guard Elijah Stephens ranks sixth among all players in NCAA Division I. His 6.6 assists per game lead the Patriot League and rank 11th in the nation, with the average being a full assist per game higher than the second-place player in the PL.
  • First-year head coach Duane Simpkins now has four career victories and has brought a new energy to the program. The Eagles run a faster offense and so far are averaging 11 more points per game than in 2022-23, and making four more 3-point field goals per game.
  • American had the advantage of extra practices and games for a foreign trip this past summer, as the Eagles embarked on a nine-day trip to Italy in August. AU flew to Naples and also spent time in Rome and Florence, playing three contests against international competition.
  • Senior Matt Rogers, the PL Player of the Week on Nov. 20, is leading the team with 14.1 points per game, followed by Sprouse at 12.7 ppg and senior Lorenzo Donadio with 9.3 ppg. Donadio caught fire in AU's win over Mount St. Mary's, scoring a career-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.

  • Harvard is in search of its first Ivy League title since 2018-19. Last year, the Crimson went 14-14 and just 5-9 in Ivy action.
