WASHINGTON - After winning five events over two meets and setting a new pool record, senior
Mimi Watts of American University women's swimming & diving has been named the
Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 2-8.
In a dual against Catholic University on Oct. 7, Watts took the win in the women's 100-yard free with a time of 51.56, besting the previous pool record of 52.23 set by 1996 Olympian Casey Legler in January of 1999. The other individual win for Watts last week was in an unusual event for her, the backstroke. She placed first in the 50-meter back in a dual at Mount St. Mary's on Oct. 6.
Watts was also a part of three relay wins, winning both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays against Catholic, and winning in the 200 freestyle relay at Mount St. Mary's.
The Eagles will head to Georgetown for their next dual meet at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13.
