Inside the Series
  • American leads the all-time series with Navy, 51-7, but the Midshipmen won all three meetings last season including a 3-1 victory in the PL quarterfinals in Annapolis.
  • In 2021, it was the Eagles who came out on top in both meetings.
  • The all-time series between AU and Colgate has the Eagles leading 43-11, but the Raiders have won the last seven matches between the two teams including a 3-1 victory last weekend.
  • American fell 3-0 in both regular season matches to Colgate in both 2021 and 2022, and lost 3-1 to the Raiders in the Patriot League Championship match in 2021.
What to Know About American
  • After going 3-0 two weeks ago, the Eagles struggled last week and went 1-2 in PL contests with losses at Loyola Maryland and Colgate. In between, they looked strong in a 3-1 win at Bucknell.
  • The Eagles, who are now in the midst of a four-match road swing, had played eight straight contests away from Bender Arena until a Sept. 29 win vs. Lafayette.
  • Leading the way offensively is 2023 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Zeynep Uzen, whose 4.01 kills per set lead the team and all players in the PL. Uzen has totaled 20 or more kills in five matches so far, including a season-high 25 against Georgetown.
  • Uzen has 1,539 kills to rank sixth all-time in program history, and she is nearing the 1,000-dig milestone with 960 career digs so far. Uzen would be the fourth player in program history to surpass both the 1,000-kill and 1,000-dig marks.
  • The Eagles' freshmen have looked very strong this season, particularly the trio of Holly Hopkins, Sofia Osterdahl and Carly Sciborski.
  • Hopkins posted her first double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs to lead AU to a sweep of Coppin State, and her 2.61 kills per set rank second on the team. After the opening week of the season, Hopkins was named the PL's Rookie of the Week.
  • Sciborski totaled 17 kills to lead AU at Rhode Island, and recently had 12 at Bucknell along with a season-tying four blocks.
  • Setter Esma Sipahi leads the PL with 9.97 assists per set, and set a new career high with 54 assists at Rhode Island.
  • For a second year in a row, graduate student Carlie Fikse is among the league leaders in both hitting percentage and blocking. She is currently third in hitting at .331, and ninth with 0.89 blocks per set.
  • American is under the direction of first-year head coach Ahen Kim, who was on the bench as an assistant coach for the Eagles from 2012-17 under Barry Goldberg.
  • The Eagles will wear jersey patches all season long commemorating their former coach. Goldberg, who amassed an incredible 812 wins at AU, passed away of cancer in March.
