Men's Basketball Welcomes Bucknell to Bender Wednesday Night

WASHINGTON –American University men's basketball (14-7, 6-4 PL) welcomes Bucknell University men's basketball (8-15, 1-9 PL) to Bender Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The Eagles are coming off a 2-0 week, beating both Army and Navy, while the Bison are coming off a loss to Loyola Maryland. Wednesday's game is the Ninth Annual Sustainability Awareness Game.

  • Junior Johnny O'Neil and Rogers lead the Eagles in scoring, both averaging in double figures. Rogers leads the way with 13.0 points per game and O'Neil is right behind him with 11.0 points per game.

  • The Bison are led by senior Xander Rice, averaging 14.5 points per game, 3.7 assists per game, and 1.2 steals per game. Senior Alex Timmerman leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.9 per game and junior Andre Screen leads the team in blocks with 1.1 per game.
  • Bucknell is third in the league in free throw percentage (72.3 percent), second in rebounds (35) and second in blocks (3.30 per game).
  • Bucknell is led by head coach Nathan Davis in his eighth season at the head of the program.
SUSTAINABILITY NIGHT
  • "Go Green," but wear red, white, and blue to Bender Arena to cheer on the American University men's basketball team at the 9th Annual Sustainability Awareness Game against Bucknell presented by Official Game Sponsor Airlie Hotel and Conference Center and Airlie Berkshire Farm.
  • This year's game also serves as the tip-off event to AU's university-wide participation in the Campus Race to Zero Waste competition.  The competition will run through March 25 and is an eight-week national competition to reduce waste produced on campus.
  • Attendees will be able to engage with numerous environmental student organizations and a bicycle will be given away to a lucky student.
  • AU's Zero Waste team will be on hand to help fans sort their waste into either compost, recycling, or landfill trash bins.
  • The game is planned each year by AU Athletics, Facilities Management's Energy & Engineering and Grounds teams, and the Office of Sustainability and is supported by corporate partners Chartwells, Duke Energy, Sustainable Solutions, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, Siemens, Aramark High Education, E.C. Ernst Electrical Contractors, and InSite.
