Men’s Basketball Heads to Colgate for Weekend Matchup

WASHINGTON – American University men's basketball (12-6, 4-3 PL) looks to get back in the win column on Saturday as the Eagles head to Colgate University (13-7, 7-0 PL) for an afternoon test against the Raiders. The Eagles have dropped their last three contests after opening up Patriot League action 4-0 while the Raiders are 7-0 in league play for the first time in program history.

  • The last meeting between the two programs was on Feb. 23, 2022 in Hamilton, N.Y. Colgate won the meeting by a 14-point margin, 63-49. Stacy Beckton Jr. led all scorers in the game with 16 points while the Raiders had three score in double figures.

  • American enters Saturday's game with a 4-3 mark in Patriot League action after dropping its last three-straight games after opening up Patriot League play 4-0.  
  • The Eagles are coming off a home loss to Lafayette, 70-59, on Wednesday. Sophomore Elijah Stephens led the Eagles with 17 points while junior Johnny O'Neil added 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds. With the loss, American and Lafayette split the 2023 regular season series.
  • Both junior Matt Rogers and O'Neil are averaging in double figures through the Eagles' 18 games so far this season. Rogers is averaging 13.2 points per game while O'Neil is averaging 11.9.
  • American leads the league in blocks, averaging 3.78 per game, and steals averaging 7.67 per game. O'Neil leads the league in blocks, averaging 1.7 per game.

  • The Raiders are led by senior Tucker Richardson who is averaging 14.9 points per game, 4.9 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game. Senior Keegan Records leads the Raiders in rebounds, averaging 5.7 per game, and leads the team in blocks, along with junior Jeff Woodward, averaging 0.9 per game.
  • Colgate leads the league in scoring, 79.8 points per game, and assists, 17.6 per game. Individually, Richardson leads the league in assists with 4.9 per game and steals with 2.1 per game.
