WASHINGTON – American University men's soccer (3-3-3, 1-1-1 Patriot League) battled to a 1-1 draw with Loyola University Maryland (3-3-3, 1-1-1 Patriot League) on Wednesday at Reeves. The Eagles' goal came from freshman

Jack Green, late in the first half after the Greyhounds took 1-0 lead.
QUICK NOTABLES
- Elgersma's goal was his first collegiate goal. The freshman has recorded two assists already this season.
- Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Tibbetts made his second start of the season Wednesday. He picked up four saves in the draw. Tibbetts has yet to drop a game at Reeves.
- Elgersma's goal is the second time that he and Green have connected to find the back of the net this season. Elgersma assisted on Green's game-winner last week against Bucknell.
- American picks up a point in the tie, moving to 1-1-1 in Patriot League play and 3-3-3 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Greyhounds had the first shot of the game in the 15th minute but Tibbetts grabbed the ball to keep the game scoreless early.
- A foul by American inside the box handed Loyola Maryland a penalty-kick in the 31st minute. The Greyhounds found the back of the net off the kick to take the lead.
- American equalized in the final minute of the second half, off of Elgersma's goal, to send the game to halftime tied 1-1.
- Loyola came out in the second half firing a shot out and to the right of the goal to keep the game tied at one.
- Elgersma fired off two back-to-back shots to try to put American on top but his first was saved by Loyola's goalkeeper and the second went over the top of the goal.
- A few minutes later, it was Elgersma again who looked like he was going to net the game-winner with 10 seconds left to play, but his shot hit the top bar of the box, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- There were 12 yellow cards handed out in the game, six to American and six to Loyola.
- American held the 4-1 corner kick advantage in the game. The Eagles totaled three in the first half and one in the second half.
- Elgersma lead the Eagles in shots, taking four. Freshman Tim Schliemann recorded two shots while Green and senior Nicholas Shirley each recorded one.
UP NEXT
- American is set for a two-game road stretch, traveling to Army and Colgate. The Eagles will first travel to Army for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 2 and then on Saturday, Oct. 8 are set for a 2 p.m. game at Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y.
- The Eagles will return to Reeves on Tuesday, Oct. 11 for a nonconference matchup with James Madison University.
