Mahony, Simmons Record First Career Goals in Women's Soccer's Draw Against Lafayette

WASHINGTON – American University women's soccer (1-2-6, 0-1-2 Patriot League) picked up its second Patriot League tie of the season on Sunday afternoon at Reeves, drawing 2-2 with Lafayette College (2-7-2, 0-2-1 Patriot League). Sophomore Jordan Mahony recorded her first career goal and her first assist of the season, sophomore Olivia Simmons recorded her first collegiate goal, and junior Izzy Kadzban picked up her first career assist in the tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles and Leopards traded corner kicks to start the game. Neither found a way to convert the kick into a goal, keeping the game scoreless.
  • Lafayette struck first in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Freshman Avery Klingensmith had a chance to even the score for American in the 32nd minute but her shot went wide and to the left, keeping Lafayette in the lead.
  • Simmons, off an assist by Mahony, evened the score right before the half in the 40th minute to send the game to halftime tied 1-1.
  • Lafayette took a 2-1 lead in the 75th minute.
  • With less than 10 minutes to play, it was Mahony who found the back of the net for the Eagles, off an assist by Kadzban, to even the game 2-2 
  • Lafayette had the last shot of the game, sending the ball out to the left of American's goal to hand both teams the 2-2 draw and a point in Patriot League play.
