Men's Soccer Hosts Bucknell Saturday in PL Home Opener

WASHINGTON – American University men's soccer will host Bucknell at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 for their Patriot League home opener. Saturday is also the Eagles' Alumni Day.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • American leads the all-time series with Bucknell 16-8-3.
  • The last meeting between the Eagles and Bison was on Oct. 2, 2021 in Lewisburg, Pa. American won the meeting 2-1 in overtime. Ethan Boyle netted the game-winner for the Eagles six minutes into overtime.
  • American is 11-1-1 on Reeves against Bucknell in the series dating back to 1996. The last Bison win at Reeves was in 2004 by a 1-0 final.
 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American enters Saturday's game with a 2-3-2 overall record and an 0-1 record in Patriot League play. The Eagles are coming off an 2-0 loss to the University of Virginia on Tuesday.
  • The Eagles are 0-1 in Patriot League play, dropping their Patriot League season opener to Lehigh, 4-0, on Friday, Sept. 16.
  • Junior Robbie Matei and sophomore Zemi Rodriguez lead the Eagles' in goals with two each. Junior Evan Schweickert has the other goal for American so far this season. Senior Mattias Cooper leads the team in assist, totaling two so far this season. Schweickert, junior Nevin Baer, freshman Troy Elgersma, and graduate student Jerry Zouantcha have the Eagles' other four assists.
  • Junior Lorenzo Gordon has made five starts between the pipes for American so far this season while sophomore Dominic Dominguez has made two. Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Tibbetts made his first collegiate appearance in goal on Tuesday at Virginia, seeing eight minutes of action.
  • Of the 27 student-athletes on the Eagles' roster, 14 are underclassmen.
  • American is looking to head back to the win column after dropping its last three out of four games, 4-1 to #23 West Virginia on Sept. 6, 4-0 to Lehigh on Sept. 16, and 2-0 to Virginia on Sept. 20.
  • After Saturday's game, American will remain at Reeves next week for a Wednesday afternoon matchup with Loyola Maryland. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start.
 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT BUCKNELL
  • Bucknell enters Saturday's game with a 1-6-0 overall record and a 0-1-0 mark in Patriot League play. The Bison are coming off a 2-0 loss to Navy to open up league play.
  • Jordan Miller, Mo Tall, Michael Dempsey, and MJ Kuczura have all found the back of the net so far this season for the Bison. Tall, Dempsey and Kuczura's goals were all their first career goals.
  • Bucknell boasts a young squad for the 2022 season with 16 of the 27 players on the roster being underclassmen. The Bison return 14 players who saw game action last season, including leading scorer Jordan Miller.
  • Bucknell has outshot its opponents 82-74 so far this season but has been outscored 18-5, giving up nine goals in the last three games.
  • After playing Saturday in Washington, D.C., Bucknell will return home for two games, hosting Lehigh on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 1.
 
CALLING ALL ALUMNI
  • AU Men's Soccer Alumni be sure to join us Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24.
  • Friday there will be an alumni reception from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Glover Park Grille.
  • On Saturday, the program invites alumni to come cheer on the Eagles at 2 p.m. against Bucknell and attend a catered post game meal with the team and families from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the gazebo.
PHIL REEVES DAY 
  • Saturday is AU men's soccer Phil Reeves/Blue Out game for students.
ENHANCED CONCESSIONS FOR WEEKEND HOME GAMES
  • AU Athletics has partnered with Gregorio's Trattoria to provide an enhanced concessions menu for all home weekend men's and women's soccer contests at Reeves this fall.  The gates to Reeves Field, and the Gregorio's grill station will open one hour prior to kickoff at each remaining Saturday and Sunday afternoon home games this fall. 
  • Fans can enjoy Gregorio's favorites from the grill station to the left of the Reeves Field bleachers including menu selections of freshly grilled burgers, Italian sausage and peppers, all-beef hot dogs, and a selection of cold Pepsi and Gatorade beverages.

  • During the 2022 season, AU Athletics will be transitioning to digital contact less e-tickets for the health and safety of our entire AU community and to further advance AU's sustainability and zero waste commitments.
