WASHINGTON – The American University men's basketball team has announced its 29-game slate for the 2022-23 season. The Eagles' schedule includes 13 home games, with four of those being non-conference contests.
AWAY HEAVY SLATE
- Of the Eagles' 11 non-conference games, seven of those games will be played away from Bender.
- Four non-conference matchups will take place on campus as William & Mary, Albany, VMI and Siena come to Washington, D.C.
- Three of the Eagles' seven away non-conference games won't take them far away from Bender. They are set for games against local opponents George Mason, Georgetown and George Washington.
SOME OF THE SAME
- The Eagles are set to play Marist, William & Mary, Georgetown, Saint Francis (PA), Mount Saint Mary's and George Mason, six of the same non-conference opponents as they played last season. American is also slated to face Siena, a program they were supposed to play last season as well.
- The Eagles will open with Marist just like they did last season. They will travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a Nov. 9 season opener.
- They will close out non-conference action against Siena, as they had originally planned to do last season.
BEEN A LITTLE WHILE
- The last time American faced NJIT was during the 2007-08 season in Newark, N.J. American won the meeting 73-50.
- American and VMI will meet for just the fifth time ever this season. The last meeting was on Nov. 27, 2018 in Richmond, Va.
- Prior to American and Siena's meeting during the 2019-20 season, the two programs had not met since Dec. 29, 1989.
PATRIOT LEAGUE NOTES
- The Eagles will play each of the other nine teams in the Patriot League twice, playing them once on the road and once at Bender.
- January 28 will feature a road test at Navy and a rematch of last season's Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals.
- American tips off its league slate this season with a road test in Easton, Pa. to take on Lafayette.
- They will open their home league slate on Jan. 2 as Loyola Maryland comes to Bender.
- The Patriot League tournament will start Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the home courts of the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds. The top four seeds in the tournament will host quarterfinal matchups on Thursday, March 2. The tournament semifinals will be held on Sunday, March 5 at the two highest remaining seeds before the Patriot League Men's Basketball Championship Game on Wednesday, March 8, at the home court of the highest remaining seed.
