Men’s Soccer Returns Home for Friday Afternoon Matchup with George Mason

WASHINGTON – American University men's soccer returns to Reeves on Friday, Sept. 2 to take on George Mason University. The Eagles enter Friday's game with a 1-0-1 record, recently coming off a 1-0 win at Old Dominion University. Friday's game is slated for a 4 p.m. start.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American enters Friday's game with a 1-0-1 record, recently coming off a gritty 1-0 win over Old Dominion University on Sunday night. Junior Robbie Matei netted the game-winner for the Eagles just 43 seconds into the second half of the game. The win was the program's first win in Norfolk since 1997.
  • Maeti's goal in Sunday's game was the first of the season for him, first of the season for the Eagles and fourth of Matei's career. The goal came off a corner kick by senior Mattias Cooper who was credited with the assist.
  • Junior Lorenzo Gordon recorded his second-straight clean sheet at Old Dominion and received Patriot League Player of the Week honorable mention nod on Monday for his two shut-out performance on the week.
  • After Friday's game, the Eagles will be back on the road to take on West Virginia University on Tuesday in Morgantown, W.Va.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT GEORGE MASON
  • George Mason enters Friday's game with a 0-1-0 record, last coming off a 1-0 loss to Old Dominion on Aug. 26 in Norfolk, Va.
  • The Patriots have 20 returns on this seasons squad as well as 13 newcomers. The program's coaching staff, head coach Rich Costanzo and assistant coaches Noel Orozco and Michael Callahan are also in their first season as part of the program.
  • George Mason will return home on Sept. 5 to take on Penn State in the program's season home opener.
  • The Eagles and Patriots 47 meetings are tied for the second most all-time in the Patriots program history. George Washington University is the other program that Eagles have matchup with as many times.
SOLID DEFENSE
  • The Eagles are just one of 17 teams in the NCAA, and the only team in the Patriot League, so far this season that have not allowed a goal.
TEAM IMPACT
  • The Eagles have partnered with Team IMPACT and signed the newest member to their team, eight-year old CJ Garcia. Garcia was born with a rare disease called Prune Belly Syndrome and was officially introduced at a signing day press conference on Wednesday, August 17 inside Bender Arena.
