Men's Soccer Opens 2022 Slate Against UNCW

WASHINGTON – The American University men's soccer program is set to open its 2022 slate on Thursday, Aug. 25 with a matchup against the University of North Carolina Wilmington at Reeves.

  • Junior Evan Schweickert was selected to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team while the Eagles were picked to finish second in the league in the preseason poll with  140 points and two first-place votes. Loyola Maryland lead the way in the preseason poll with 162 points and 18 first-place votes.
  • The Eagles welcome nine newcomers to their 2022 squad, giving the roster a heavy underclassmen presence.
  • They return their assist leader from last season in senior Mattias Cooper who lead with a team-high seven assists.
 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT UNCW
  • The Seahawks were picked to finish second in the CAA Preseason Poll with 61 points, behind preseason favorite Hofstra. Senior Bachir Ndiaye was selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team while senior Gabriel Perrotta received an honorable mention nod.
  • UNCW finished the 2021 season with a 9-6-2 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in CAA play.
  • They boast a roster with 11 seniors and one graduate student while adding nine freshmen to the program for the 2022 season.
 
TEAM IMPACT
  • The Eagles have partnered with Team IMPACT and signed the newest member to their team, eight-year old CJ Garcia. Garcia was born with a rare disease called Prune Belly Syndrome and was officially introduced at a signing day press conference on Wednesday, August 17 inside Bender Arena.

PARKING INFO
  • Due to Move-In and Welcome Week activities, all levels of the Sports Center Parking Garage are reserved for incoming students and their families until the completion of move-in operations on Sunday, August 28. Fans looking to attend Thursday's season opener are encouraged to park in either the SIS or Katzen garages, take public transit, or carpool.
