Wrestling's Jack Maida Places Fourth at 2022 EIWA Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. - At his first EIWA Championships, freshman Jack Maida went 4-2 overall and earned fourth place at 133 pounds. It was a three-spot improvement from his seventh-place seed coming into the tournament.

Notable
  • The day started early for Maida in the consolation round of 4. He faced Drexel's Jaxon Maroney, an opponent he'd beaten 5-4 in dual meet action back on January 30.
  • Maida and Maroney were scoreless through the first period. While on top in the second period, Maida attempted a traditional mat return before adjusting into a Merkel position. With his leg laced, Maida rolled through and whipped Maroney to his back before transitioning on top for the fall.
  • In the consolation semifinals, Maida earned a late first-period takedown against Army's Richard Treanor and went on to win, 5-3. Treanor tied it up late in the third period, but an escape and plenty of riding time secured the victory for Maida who advanced to the third-place match.
  • Facing Cornell's Dom LaJoie, ranked 32nd, Maida lost 4-0 after failing to get the escape in the third period. The loss put Maida at 4-2 for the weekend and 17-10 for the season.
  • With 25.5 team points, the Eagles placed 15th overall of the 17 teams in the EIWA.
