WASHINGTON - The American University Department of Athletics and Recreation is excited to announce the return of its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) celebration, Saturday, April 23 during the lacrosse game against Colgate at the Jacobs Complex. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m. with a clinic immediately following at the nearby outdoor sports courts and track adjacent to Reeves Field.
"Hosting our National Girls and Women in Sports Day event is always a highlight of the year," said Director of Athletics and Recreation
Dr. Billy Walker. "Watching our student-athletes connect with the next generation of female athletes is great for everyone involved. We are proud to promote and seek continued growth in girls' sports participation across the Washington, D.C. region."
"We are excited to introduce youth and families to our program and to have them take in a Division I women's lacrosse game," said head lacrosse coach
Lindsay Teeters. "Our Athletics Department has so many great female coaches and athletes that represent leadership and hard work all season long. It's a special day when we can all share one common goal – to push forward women's sports with all of our teams!"
Following the conclusion of the lacrosse game, seven of American's varsity women's teams – basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving and volleyball, along with the cheer and dance squads, will lead skills clinics and sign autographs for kids of all ages in attendance. The clinic is free for all, and children are asked to wear athletic shoes and gear.
Admission to all lacrosse games is free. However, registration is required prior to the NGWSD event. Click
