ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The American University women's basketball team's historic season came to an end on Saturday as the 14th-seeded Eagles fell to three-seed Michigan in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, 74-39.
AU closes the book on 2021-22 with its third Patriot League title and an overall record of 23-9, including 13-5 in Patriot League play and a near-perfect 16-1 record at home.
The Wolverines will advance to Monday's second round game to face 11-seed Villanova.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- American had a strong start to the day, leading by as many as four behind buckets from Fisher, Edwards, Stack, and Bales.Â
- Michigan called a timeout midway through the stanza and came out of the huddle swinging, hitting a 7-0 run to close the quarter with an 11-8 advantage.
- The Eagles struggled to their rhythm again in the second, as Michigan hit a 28-5 run to take a 39-13 lead at the half.
- American nearly matched Michigan basket-for-basket in the third quarter, but couldn't find the stops defensively against Michigan's size in the paint as the Wolverine's took a 57-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
- It was a similar story in the final 10 minutes as American continued to keep pace offensively behind six points from Brown. But Michigan continued to control the pace and closed with the 74-39 victory.
